There are only 3 rim fire calibers I know of. 22, 22 magnum, and 17.

I don't know if the spec for some necked-down .17 matches your case samples but I have seen that type. I was told it was mostly popular with fur hunters that want absolute minimal pelt damage. All hear-say so I don't know but have seen that type cartridge in a bolt action.
I have heard of an obscure 9mm revolver cartridge but I've never seen the gun or the bullet so don't know if it really exists.

Now I'm embarrassed. A quick look at a scale size chart that use to hang on the wall shows more common rimfire than I realized. They have been chambered in both handgun and rifles it seems and the best match for your cartridge looks like 17HMR. I haven't researched yet but don't see anything about that mystical 9mm. I do see something called 'Mach2' that I never noticed before.

Can't be, PF. I held the shell against the screen image and they're different sizes.
I checked the CCI website and they agree with you, but what do they know? They just make the thing.

OMG!
"5mm, .32, .41, 8mm, ................."
WAAAAAY more rimfire than I ever realized existed from cursory search.
That "HMR" is a Hornady product it seems. I look at them as the big dog for reloading supply. I'm certain, like everything else in life, there is a LOT to learn about rimfire.

My reading of it was that the pill is by Hornady, the case etc by CCI.
Muzzle velocities of about 2400fps are not to be sniffed at.

PF a 9mm rim fire wouldn't be necked down. The only pistol cartridges I know of that is necked down is in the wildcat calibers. With the case being an inch and a 1/16th long the 17 hmr comes in the closest. With most of the other rim fire rounds not listed on the chart are in the world of collectors and not likely to find the brass on the range.

I've figured out that even if you neck down a 9mm long, you can only load about as much powder as the .17/.22mag. The only difference is the strength of the case.

I was finally able to find something on the "9mm Flobert" ghost bullet. Lol Actually not much but enough to verify it does exist.
Quote:
…….A notable rimfire still in production in*Europe, and chambered by the Winchester Model 39 in the 1920s, is the*9 mm Flobert. This cartridge can fire a small ball, but is primarily loaded with a small amount of shot, and used in*smoothbore*guns as a miniature shotgun, or "garden gun". Power and range are very limited, making it suitable only for pest control.[1] …….

Pasted from <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rimfire_ammunition>
As for necked down pistol ammo, I didn't mean to infer I had been told that about the 9mm rim fire. Only that there was suppose to be one which at first I thought he was referring to the .380, but he was adamant about it being rim fire.
The only neck down pistol cartridge I know of off hand is the newish "FN Five-Seven" which I'm totally against. I don't see a place in the civilian market for it.

The P90 (Stargate gun) is an excellent military self-defence gun for vehicle crews and specialist troops.
Any gun is dangerous, and ballistic armour imperfect.
