Ours does that in summer, with real sand (almost).

Sand.... down to the waters edge to just get our feet in....
then turning from the water to the sand dunes....
finding a secluded spot where we can see the gulls fly over head, hear the waves, feel the sun as we spread out a blanket and lay on it in each others arms....

Here in the tropics, in a sheltered part of the coast, waves are things you get with storms.
