Angry Kids

So, my daughter has had her first pair of glasses all of a month. And no, she didn't break them.

However, at lunch time, she handed them to a friend, so she could play on the monkey bars. Mistake #1, and 2- she's not supposed to wear her glasses outside at all, OR give them to her friends to try on, or hold. She has a case in her desk for gym class and recess.

So, she's flipping around on the monkey bars, and said friend drops them. Great. Mistake #3- instead of picking them up, both friend and Raegan run off to play. They forget where they are, and promptly lose them.

Inside she goes at the end of recess, upset and crying. Teacher tells her to go out alone and look for them. So, she spends a good 20 minutes out there looking, by herself, goes back in, and is told to check the office. Office doesn't have them.

Teacher tells her tough luck, and she sits the rest of the day without them.

She gets sent home, and is practically bawling when she gets here, wanting her glasses, and afraid of what we'll say.

I wasn't home at the time, but I guess she was pretty much hysterical. So, my FIL (who's up visiting from NC for a week) takes her over to look for them. They're there right now.

Chances of finding them intact, after 4 grades of classes went on afternoon recess, and after the afterschool program went on recess, are slim to none. At the very least, I expect we'll have to get the lenses replaced for scratching against the ground and being kicked around.

Chances are more likely that the frames are out of shape, if not broken.

Ugh.

Too bad about the glasses.
My daughter was 7 when she started wearing them and we soon learned that we had to buy the 2 for 1 specials for her....funny thing though she never lost her contacts LOL.

I do question the teacher who allowed her to go unattended on the playground alone to seek them out.....not a very wise decision on her part!

Gilly Hon, I know exactly how you feel. Just realise she's probably beat herself up quite a bit over it and hopefully will learn from it. That won't replace the glasses but having kids isn't ever cheap. When I was reading your post I could hear my Mom saying "Money doesn't grow on trees Ya know!" Maybe Murphy took a day off and the FIL and she will find them. I'll keep my fingers crossed. Hang in there, it always gets better.

They didn't find them. The grass is rather overgrown, they said, and to top it off, the custodian crew was pulling out the lawn mowers.

Unless the friend accidently stuck them in a pocket, or handed em to someone else, there's no way they'll be intact.

Now, granted, the glasses won't be TOO expensive to replace, but with her needing to go in and get a tooth surgiclly removed, and me with a rot canal, and some more dental work in the near future, well.. -grumbles in frustration-

-sighs- Still no glasses. We're going to go in next week and re-order them. My mom offered to send some money to help, which isn't needed, but is nice.

Gilly, my youngest just turned 19 and the hand in the pocket's still there.

Take heart, they're still relatively cheap at your young one's age.

Did I mention car and education?
