You are correct popper70.  There are exactly 50 stars in the blue field of the current American flag. There is one for each state and the last two were added in my lifetime in 1959. Our flag (of 6 rows of 8 stars) had only 48 from 1912 until then. The longest time period of 47 years between states joining the union came when out country became a contiguous entity across the continent. The original flag had one star for each state in a circular pattern. The 13 original east coast colonies that formed the federation are also represented by the 13 (6 white, 7 red) stripes that make up our flag.
Can you please tell me of the history of your countries flag? I must plead ignorance (typical American  ) of it’s current appearance. I know that some major changes have taken place just in my lifetime. I can only recognize a few dozen foreign flags and am hard pressed to making a rendering of more than a couple hands full.
(I only remember that Australia stole all the stars from the New Zealand flag.  ) LOL
