What's your theme song?

Okay, I know we've had some threads about favourite music in the past, but I thought this might be fun... What I want to know is: what song(s) best encapsulate your identity? If you had to pick one or two songs that would be the theme songs for your life at the moment, what would they be? And... this is the fun part... From what you know about the other Pixies' members, is there any song that you think could be a theme song for them? Or is there a song that would be a perfect theme song for the whole group of us?

For example:

My theme song for today would have to be Ani Difranco's song "Pixie" (hmmm, isn't that nicely ironic, considering where I'm posting this?)... Here's an excerpt:

"I’m a pixie / I’m a paper doll / I’m a cartoon / I’m a chipper, cheerful free-for-all / And I light up a room / I’m the Colour-me-happy Girl / Miss Live-and-let-live / And when they’re out for blood / I always give // ... // Maybe you don’t like your job / Maybe you didn’t get enough sleep / Well nobody likes their job / Nobody got enough sleep / Maybe you just had the worst day of your life / You know there’s no escape, there’s no excuse / So just suck up, suck up, and be nice / Be nice (6x) ..."

As for the theme song for another member, earlier today I had a sudden and inexplicable urge to get out my Alanis Morissette albums and came across the song "(I'm a) Bitch" --- and immediately thought of our dear Lilith. (In the best possible way, of course!) :D

"I'm a bitch, I'm a lover / I'm a child, I'm a mother / I'm a sinner, I'm a saint / I do not feel ashamed / I'm your hell, I'm your dream / I'm nothing in between / You know you wouldn't want it any other way // I'm a bitch, I'm a tease / I'm a goddess on my knees / When you hurt, when you suffer / I'm your angel undercover / I've been numbed, I'm revived / Can't say I'm not alive / You know I wouldn't want it any other way."

To give another example, whenever I hear the songs "Ponerte en Cuatro" or "El Disco Anal" by the Venezuelan acid jazz-slash-dance group Los Amigos Invisibles, I think of our very own Ass Man Extraordinaire, Aquaman... I won't post the lyrics for those songs because they're all in Spanish, but the rather inexplicable music videos are on the band's site at http://www.amigosinvisibles.com/newsound.html. (I should point out that the lyrics are actually quite sweet and have relatively little to do with the steamy titles --- it's mainly the titles of the songs that make me think of Aqua...) In fact, most of the band's titles --- such as "Sexy", "Porno Song", and "Masturbation Session" --- would make great Pixies' theme songs! :o

A couple of final examples: One for Leigh, thinking back to her strip poker thread, would be Tom Jones' "You Can Leave Your Hat On"... A song for the whole Pixies' gang might be "Sex Machine" by James Brown.

So c'mon, everyone, tell me: when you're listening to the radio, what song captures you? And what song conjures up the fondest memories of this site and the people on it?

Three stooges theme!!!!!!

Lilith 03-07-2002 04:19 PM

Meredith Brooks....'I'm a Bitch'....... works for me:D

xanne 03-07-2002 04:36 PM

For the pixies gang, I think "You sexy thing" by Hot Chocolate fits really well.

I believe in miracles
Where you from
You sexy thing
I believe in miracles
Since you came along
You sexy thing

Miracles right before my eyes
You sexy thing got me hypnotised
Don't stop what ya' doing
What ya' doing to me

As for myself, I have always identified with "Bitch" by Meredith Brooks because I guess I don't put up with much crap and I stand up for what I believe in.

Hello SugarFree,

FYI

You Can Leave Your Hat On

Is Joe Cocker's song from the movie Nine & a Half Weeks,

also his album Cocker, song was written by Randy Newman

danziggy 03-07-2002 04:51 PM

Boy this is a hard one.

I must say at the moment (prob due to Jack D and coke) it is Signs by Tesla ( not written by them though)

Cause i hate people shovin their opions down other peoples throat!!

But this will prob change as my mood changes!!

sugarfreecandy 03-07-2002 04:59 PM

Yep, I know, Meredith Brooks did Bitch first and Joe Cocker did Leave Your Hat On first as well --- I'm just going by my personal favourite recordings of those songs... And Xanne, i think Miracles would make a great theme song! But Mindboxer, I've got to ask though --- what makes you pick the Stooges song? (I guess it's a guy thing, as is everything with the Stooges... )

Hmm.... I must be way too addicted to this place. The thought just crossed my mind to make a compilation cd of all the 'theme songs' picked by the members... Hey Lilith, when's the next Pixaholic meeting? I think I'm overdue for some group therapy! :o :p :D

Glyndwr 03-07-2002 06:37 PM

I think theme tunes are like moods and change with the soundtrack of your life at the time.

This week I have been mainly Queen - Who wants to live forever.
Also U2 - Desire

A theme for pixie-holics could be Both sides now by Elaine Paige, Julie Covington, Paul Young & Clannad (my favourite version) etc etc

But now old friends are acting strange, they shake their heads, they say
I've changed.
Something's lost but something's gained in living every day.

I've looked at life from both sides now,
from win and lose, and still somehow
it's life's illusions I recall.
I really don't know life at all.

sugarfreecandy 03-07-2002 06:57 PM

Yeah, that's a great tune choice, Glyndwr --- though I think the real title is "Clouds" and the original is by Joni Mitchell (I could be wrong... wasn't born when it was written... )... And I couldn't agree more with you that theme songs are all about moods, they change frequently and often (in my case anyway) without warning! In fact... I think my current theme song choice --- despite what I said about K.D. Lang & "Constant Craving" in the Pixaholics thread --- would have to be the old jazz standard, "You're getting to be a habit with me"! :D

I'm also in complete agreement with Mindboxer and Danziggy that this place is about far more than sex... I love the friendships (flirtatious and otherwise) that I've been able to establish here... From that perspective maybe I'd choose a song like "Come Together" (by the Beatles, of course) for the overall Pixies' theme...

P.s. Blk cat --- yes, Tom Jones is a wee bit older than me, but if you've noticed, my taste in music has very little to do with my age... I was raised listening to the Beatles, John Lee Hooker, and Louis Armstrong every bit as much as Sharon, Lois, and Bram, Eric Nagler, Fred Penner, Raffi, and the rest............. Oooh, speaking of Johnny Lee, his version of "I'm in the Mood for Love" with Bonnie Raitt would be an awesome Pixies' theme as well, don't you think? Anyway, besides: Tom Jones may be a little old (to me, LOL) but it doesn't take too much convincing to get me to start throwing my knickers about! ;)

danziggy 03-07-2002 07:00 PM

well throw them at me. i'll catch them!!!

jay 03-07-2002 08:49 PM

mine would have to be where is my mind by the pixies hmm weird how that happened
