Happy Birthday......

"I refuse to accept the idea that man is mere flotsom and jetsom in the river of life unable to influence the unfolding events which surround him.I refuse to accept the view that mankind is so tragically bound to the starless midnight of racism and war that the bright daybreak of peace and brotherhood can never become reality.I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word." Taken from his Nobel Prize acceptance speech on 10 December 1964 in Oslo Norway. HAPPY BIRTHDAY Reverend King

I spent the day watching children learn about him. Here was a paragraph one little girl wrote (spelled correctly for you guys :p):

"Martin Luther King, Jr. had a dream. He wanted us together. He changed the world. He were shot."

Thanks, lakritze, for starting this thread and the excellent quote from Rev MLK Jr. One of his MANY great thoughts.

His speeches reveal morality, thought, logic, conviction, persuasiveness, and emotion.

I want Canada to have this holiday, too!

Great quote, lakritze!

"Ask not what your country can do for you,
but what you can do for your country."----some white guy who isn't politically correct at the moment.

A man for his time - Happy Birthday

I wonder how long though before his birthday gets grouped with someone elses? Re: Abraham Lincoln (who also was for the same thing as Mr. King) and the father of our nation - George Washington. They no longer get to have their own birthday as you know, we now call it President's Day and all we do is sell linens for us to put on our beds.....Things that make you go hmmmmmm
