Small Town People
Small Town People :)
Those who grew up in small towns will laugh when they read this. Those who didn't will be in disbelief. 1) You can name everyone you graduated with. 2) You know what 4-H means. 3) You went to parties at a pasture, barn, gravel pit, or in the middle of a dirt road. On Monday you could always tell who was at the party because of the scratches on their legs from running through the woods when the party was busted. (See #6.) 4) You used to "drag" Main. 5) You said the "F" word and your parents knew within the hour. 6) You scheduled parties around the schedules of different police officers because you knew which ones would bust you and which ones wouldn't. 7) You could never buy cigarettes because all the store clerks knew how old you were (and if you were old enough, they'd tell your parents anyhow). 8) When you did find somebody old enough and brave enough to buy cigarettes, you still had to go out into the country and drive on back roads to smoke them. 9) You knew which section of the ditch you would find the beer your buyer dropped off. 10) It was cool to date somebody from the neighboring town. 11) The whole school went to the same party after graduation. 12) You didn't give directions by street names but rather by references. Turn by Nelson's house, go 2 blocks to Anderson's, and it's four houses left of the track field. 13) The golf course had only 9 holes. 14) You couldn't help but date a friend's ex-boyfriend/girlfriend. 15) Your car stayed filthy because of the dirt roads, and you will never own a dark vehicle for this reason. 16) The town next to you was considered "trashy" or "snooty," but was actually just like your town. 17) You referred to anyone with a house newer then 1965 as the "rich people." 18) The people in the "big city" dressed funny, and then you picked up the trend 2 years later. 19) Anyone you wanted could be found at the local gas station or the town bar. 20) You saw at least one friend a week driving a tractor through town or one of your friends driving a grain truck to school occasionally. 21) The gym teacher suggested you haul hay for the summer to get stronger. 22) Directions were given using THE stop light as a reference. 23) When you decided to walk somewhere for exercise, 5 people would pull over and ask if you wanted a ride. 24) Your teachers called you by your older siblings' names. 25) Your teachers remembered when they taught your parents. 26) You could charge at any local store or write checks without any ID. 27) The closest McDonalds was 45 miles away (or more). 28) The closest mall was over an hour away. 29) It was normal to see an old man riding through town on a riding lawn mower. 30) You've peed in a cornfield. 31) Most people went by a nickname. 32) You laughed your butt off reading this because you know it is true, and you forward it to everyone who may have lived in a small town. |
Not being a native Iowan, I can say this...
...nearly everyone I've met here qualifies, I think. :D |
Sounds exactly like where my parents grew up! Can ya see why it's not much fun to visit?
|
From San Leana TX, Population 210 (and a 3 dogs). all of these ring true, although we didn't get an acutal stop light in town 'til i had moved on.
a few others you could add are - your siblings walked to school with you (no not because you are in the same grade, but k-12th grade all went to the same building - the VFW hall was also the best restaurant in town - if you were stopped for drinking and driving the cop told you to leave your truck there, walk home (or he'd give you a ride) and you could pick up your truck in the morning. - you went to church early so you could get a good seat in the back! |
1) You can name everyone you graduated with.
We had a pretty big school...But I could name most of them! 2) You know what 4-H means. Absolutely! I was in the club and went to 4-H camp!! 3) You went to parties at a pasture, barn, gravel pit, or in the middle of a dirt road. On Monday you could always tell who was at the party because of the scratches on their legs from running through the woods when the party was busted. (See #6.) My friend had THE BEST barn for Parties.....til the cops got mad about all the stolen road signs in it....but since they knew him, he stayed out of trouble as long as he stayed on the honor roll!! 4) You used to "drag" Main. I didn't.....but I knew those who did.....I was too busy getting high in my friends barn! 5) You said the "F" word and your parents knew within the hour. yeah.....true!! 6) You scheduled parties around the schedules of different police officers because you knew which ones would bust you and which ones wouldn't. I was at every party...because I had 2 uncles and 2 cousins who were cops!!! 7) You could never buy cigarettes because all the store clerks knew how old you were (and if you were old enough, they'd tell your parents anyhow). I actually used to buy them from the boys in the full service line at the gas station...they all had a crush on me! 8) When you did find somebody old enough and brave enough to buy cigarettes, you still had to go out into the country and drive on back roads to smoke them. definately NO SMOKING through town! 9) You knew which section of the ditch you would find the beer your buyer dropped off. Or the pot!! 10) It was cool to date somebody from the neighboring town. All the boys from the rich private school wanted to date us, they thought country girls were so cool! 11) The whole school went to the same party after graduation. YES! And we all stayed in the same hotel during Beach Week at Myrtle Beach! 12) You didn't give directions by street names but rather by references. Turn by Nelson's house, go 2 blocks to Anderson's, and it's four houses left of the track field. too true!!! 13) The golf course had only 9 holes. I only went to the Golf course to run through the sprinklers drunk at night! 14) You couldn't help but date a friend's ex-boyfriend/girlfriend. very true!!!! We rotated the HOT boys!! 15) Your car stayed filthy because of the dirt roads, and you will never own a dark vehicle for this reason. I wasn't allowed to drive more than 5 MPH up my driveway because it would stir up dust!!! 16) The town next to you was considered "trashy" or "snooty," but was actually just like your town. And what a big football rivalry! 17) You referred to anyone with a house newer then 1965 as the "rich people."LMAO!!! 18) The people in the "big city" dressed funny, and then you picked up the trend 2 years later. we all wore jeans, t-shirts and birkenstocks....can't go wrong that way! 19) Anyone you wanted could be found at the local gas station or the town bar. At 3:00 all the preps would go to McDonalds, the Hippies to the barn, and the smokers would go to Hardees because they wouldn't tell if you were smoking underage! 20) You saw at least one friend a week driving a tractor through town or one of your friends driving a grain truck to school occasionally. It said "Farm Use Only" on the back and my friend Clay drove it to school ofter.....he also had a bumper sticker that read "My grass is Blue" 21) The gym teacher suggested you haul hay for the summer to get stronger. She told me to quit smoking pot 22) Directions were given using THE stop light as a reference. We had about 5....but yeah I know how that goes 23) When you decided to walk somewhere for exercise, 5 people would pull over and ask if you wanted a ride. It was hard to walk down all the curvey roads...but if your car broke down and you had to walk somewhere....there was a 100% chance someone you knew would drive by and pick you up! 24) Your teachers called you by your older siblings' names. They currently do that to my sis!!! She's 16 25) Your teachers remembered when they taught your parents. YUP! And they called my by my moms name all the time! 26) You could charge at any local store or write checks without any ID. I could go to a store and give them my moms check and it was ok! 27) The closest McDonalds was 45 miles away (or more). We had a McDonalds.... 28) The closest mall was over an hour away. TRUE!!!! Going to the mall was an all day event! 29) It was normal to see an old man riding through town on a riding lawn mower.Everytime I was late for school I'd get behind one!!! 30) You've peed in a cornfield. Who hasn't? 31) Most people went by a nickname. Still do! 32) You laughed your butt off reading this because you know it is true, and you forward it to everyone who may have lived in a small town. This is too true!!!!! We used to have parties in fields and barns constantly!! We'd fill an old bathtub up with ice and beer and party down!!!! This is great CGT!!! Thanks for posting it! I'm smiling! My cousin owned a lil hippie store...and his little store in my small town sold more detox than anywhere in the entire state of VA!!! And if you don't know what detox is...then you definatley didn't grow up in a small town! |

|
LMAO

I didn't grow up in a small town, an average sized town but not a small one. I could do most of those based on my own town but I spent enough time in small towns to get a darn good Idea.
Your family comes from a small town when... Your Grandparents have shown you off so much you've been adopted by all the other grandparents in town. You hear stories about your parents from people other then family members. You know exactly where your parents went to school, lived, worked, etc... because the buildings are still the same. You were taught how to ride a horse so you would have something to do when you visited your grandparents. |
ROTFLMAO, These are all so true!!!!!!!!!
|
LMAO! The old guy who rides the lawnmower through town just got a newer model! ROTFLMAO!!!!
All of these are true! |
Mackenzie......... Barn parties were the best weren't they? :D
I had some good ones at my house too. :) I also rode my horse to the small store out here to buy my cigarettes.I can't believe they never told on me! :p |
