Dicksbro---That is beautiful!Is it really a model?I have;a few friends,that restore old cars.You wouldn't believe;the money;that
they pay for genuine parts! Irish |
Lilith---My favorite(deceased)Aunt;used to collect Tea Cups.Every-
time;that we(parents, wife, etc.)went anywhere;we would always bring her a cup(China).I don't know what ever happened;to her collection.I had moved to another state;when she died.I was a pall-bearer; at her funeral;but I never asked about the collection. Oh......My! Hmmmmm......I should alphabetize these but here goes.......off the top of my head: (dangerous manuever)
old bottles....I have hundreds (in hubby's business, he digs them up all the time, hopefully finding them before they are blown to smitherines) I bought a few, but most are found. Hallmark ornaments.....all kinds from any source. Some we have date back to 66. Unusual time pieces........anything other than clocks (sundials, hourglasses, etc.) although I have a few "special" clocks that are old and rare. Books........any kind...doesn't matter.....I love to hold an old book and wonder who read it before me. The oldest book I own is "The Report of the Secretary of Internal Affairs", dated 1875. When I found it in our attic when we moved in it had been eaten a bit by silverfish but still in pretty good condition. Inside was page #3 of a letter (handwritten in Pa. Dutch) and the closest we can figure from this page is that *Seems there was a scandal in a county not far from here. When exposed, a farmer killed his lover and then his wife......set his barn on fire and then killed himself. All to burn together in hell, I assume! People had shunned them and so as not to make his lover and wife bear his shame, he killed them and himself. I looked everywhere for page #1 but to no avail. Stamps.......first issue and cancelled at the city of source. Example: The day before and the day after stamps from U.S.S.R on Dec. 24th and Russia on Dec. 25th. I think that's how they go, I am not looking at them at the moment but I think it's something like that. These were cancelled in Moscow. I have others....Elvis...on a Graceland envelope, etc. Geezzzzzzzzz......I have so much more to put down here but I am rambling! I really want to post pics of all this stuff and prolly will soon but the reason I started this reply is to tell Lilith of the "almost" collection I was gonna start! I wanted to collect teacups of faces. Three dimensional faces at that! Bailey's (the Irish Creme people) had a novel idea one Christmas and as a bonus at purchase you recieved a teacup designed by a celebrity. I wanted to get the series. I got the first in the series....a cup designed and signed by Helen Hunt. The next year when I wanted the second in the series I was told they discontinued the idea...........aaarrrrrgggggggggg! Included is a pic of my one and only three dimensional teacup. She looks so lonely! OK...I'll shut up now! LOL! |
Lixy~I love that cup and have not found one here yet......oh well I have actually not gotten a teacup in years..... there are these newer sexy ones done by Versace.......several dif ones in the dinnerware lines. Oh I need to go junking......:p
|
Ok, I only have a few collections ....
I collect VW stuff. My prize piece in this collection is the newest one, which is the Barbie cyber green New Beetle. This is because it looks like my real one. ;) I also collect Tiki items and Persian Rugs. I have started getting camel saddle bags (which are like the rugs) and are turning them into floor pillows. I am in the business of selling people's collections through eBay and an Auction House. It is truly amazing to see what people collect. I have had fun reading this thread. Thanks Lil (and all). -Summer :D |

Live on an acreage so nothing gets tossed out..got all sorts of nuts, bolts, nails, screws, wire...etc...everything has a use. The s/o collects candles & holders, knives (I'm careful around her :) )

I collect any and all things Raggedy Ann and Andy; most of them are put away in a closet (bursting at the seams!) until I get a bigger place. Their soft, simple faces and bodies appeal to the little girl in me.

OMGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!
Yep! That's all I can say! Yep! |
Being a pack rat I have a rather vast collection of collections......
So I can say that I collect collections!(I think it is a sickness but I have no desire to find the cure...yet!) My most favorite collectible is Wizard of Oz ....I have lots of it. Crystal figures are next.....the little tiny ones I am also into collecting old trunks and I have 6 throughout my home....my favorite is an old steamship truck equipped with drawers and wooden hangers and tons of decals from places visited long ago...... Tins I love to collect also..... and so on and so on and so on! Oh brother, if I ever have to move!!!! :) |
Oh My we are Antique and Collectable Dealers what don't we collect. Our store is eBay.

I think my bottle cap collection is too weird to mention...
...so I won't. I collect (authentic looking) Hot Wheels. -it's a lot harder than it sounds, most are stoopid looking. ...it's like a little treasure hunt. I go through the racks of Hot Wheels and out the hundreds of cars I MAY find ONE. -and spend a buck. |
UPDATE!

:DSURPRISE ADDITION:D
I have to show you the latest additions to my collection. But the best part is how I came by them. I got a PM from a member here saying she had found some monkeys that would go in my self-started, self-perpetuating collection. I was so taken that she even remembered about it that I really didn’t take her seriously until she asked for shipping instructions. Yes, our Summer is not only sexy and smart, she’s sweet too.:) [even if they don’t have the proper wrapping material in Florida. (inside joke)];) |

I love 1/18th scale modlel cars ... especailly older models like the 1931 Alpha Romeo"BC Monza" which I supplied a picture of. I'd really love the real cars, but my budget is a bit constrained for that. :D :D I probably have 30 or 40 of these models.

Here, I'll share one more of my "car model" collection. This one being Emperor Hirohito's Mercedes Benz. This is the same 1/18th scale as the other picture.
|
I've got a ridiculously large collection of salt and pepper shakers, a passion I inherited from my grandmother. I'm also an antique junky. I especially love antique toys. Just another sign of my determination not to grow up I guess. Unfortunately, the increasing volume of gray hair is a sign that I am losing the battle.

Dice!
1 Attachment(s)
I forgot about the dice. These damn things seem to have accumulated too.
Everything from oversize carnival dice and novelty dice to souvenirs from the Sahara and calibrated, matched, serial numbered casino bones. I think my favorite are the tiny, 5/16” (in the lid of the matched set) that were supposedly devised in Alabama by blacks, during the Jim Crow days, to foil the authorities trying to stop street corner crap games by simply swallowing them. |
PF, I love your latest 3 monkey, they are 'cute' in a funny way. I was looking for you in that pic though.
When you took the dice pic, you forgot to include the fuzzy pair hanging from the rear view mirror in your car. :D You DO have them don't you? |
Collect lapel pins. They don't take up as much room. Also old Peter Max books. Wish I still had my old notebooks from high school. We ruthlessly de-junked and donated massive amounts when we moved into our house. I really love the bright colors of the 70's Peter Max.
