Alasse

Was that a tug on our heartstrings or a yank on our logic?

Loulabelle 06-12-2006 01:40 AM

Well, there is such a day as St. George's day in our calendar, but it's not a 'holiday' as such. It's a normal working day and there are no traditional practises which are observed on it. A lot of working people are told they are not allowed to display a St George's Cross flag on their vehicle or work station as it will apparently offend ethnic minorities in our country.

We also have St Andrew's day (for Scotland) St David's day (for Wales) and St Patrick's day (for Ireland).

Obviously, we don't celebrate 4th July, since it is the anniversary of the American's defeating us in the War of Independence, although I can't count how many times I've been asked if we do.

Having said that, 4th July is a very important day for us this year, as it's the day we go for our second scan, and should hopefully find out if Junior-Pucker is a boy or a girl! :D

I thought it was interesting ... I found a URL with "National Holidays" from all over the world ... :)

http://www.africa.upenn.edu/Country...c/Holidays.html

It's just too bad they only gave the dates and not the reasons for the holidays. :(

Then I looked some more and found ...

http://siakhenn.tripod.com/holiday.html

... and it DID say what the holidays were for. For example, did anyone know that September 8th in Andorra is Our Lady of Meritxell Day?

maddy 06-12-2006 05:18 AM

Little things I find strange... like today is a holiday for the Queen in Bermuda, but not in England. I'm not sure exactly what the holiday is, just that I learned this through my version of "corporate America".

Fangtasia 06-12-2006 05:29 AM

Tis also a holiday for the Queens Birthday for us today.....Qld that is

PantyFanatic 06-12-2006 06:54 AM

 Ya don't say!

jezzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
was that so hard?

:faint:

Fangtasia 06-12-2006 06:57 AM

Yep....had to try to type so you could understand it....and its hard to type slow LMFAO

scotzoidman 06-12-2006 10:28 AM

Just don't type faster than his lips can move...

Oldfart 06-12-2006 12:10 PM

It's not actually the current Queen's birthday, but one of the earlier models.

Victoria perhaps.

It was a holiday for all Oz except West Oz, I think.

PantyFanatic 06-30-2006 10:41 PM

I'm starting to think it’s ALL your fault. I haven’t seen a lot of posting on here?!?! :brows:

Happy Canada Day to all our friends above the 49th. :) ……….. and especially to Newfoundland, who is having their Memorial Day also.

They have to be the smartest province among our great neighbors. (They threw Steph out, didn’t they? ) :thumb:

Beaumont Hamel/Happy Canada Day

Today is Canada Day but Newfoundlanders tend to be more subdued because we lost a lot of men on July 1, 1916.

In Newfoundland, today is akin to Remembrance Day (but we also celebrate11/11/11).

My province lost 820 men that day. God bless France & Belgium for their respect for that day.

Happy Canada Day and also God bless all those who gave there lives to help secure or preserve liberty.

Hat's off to our Canadian friends.

Steph 07-01-2006 03:13 AM

The Germans took a human toll that day but "with chins tucked down as if walking into a blizzard" the Newfs helped put a dent into 'er.

jseal 07-01-2006 08:41 AM

Steph,

Yes'm. The Somme was a terrible, terrible experience. :(

PantyFanatic 10-01-2006 11:57 AM

In a couple hours SOMEBODY:rolleyes2 in eastern Australia will be getting up and NOT going to work AGAIN.

Happy Labor Day :D

Oldfart 10-01-2006 01:22 PM

October Long Weekend already, and us not getting it up here.

PantyFanatic 10-02-2006 12:10 AM

Seeing that nobody (in San Francisco :rolleyes2 ) around here wants to ENLIGHTEN us, I wish all a pleasant
Gandhi Jayanti day

;)

osuche 10-02-2006 12:33 AM

I knew I head about that from someone. :banghead:

Oldfart 10-02-2006 01:52 AM

It's a newie on me.

maddy 10-02-2006 05:55 AM

I have a list of Indian National Holidays posted on my wall at work. Oddly enough, this one, Christmas, and Good Friday are the only ones I understood. Oh, I guess Independence Day too.

maddy 10-02-2006 05:56 AM

I think it's Yom Kippur today too... though I'm not good with the Jewish Holidays.
