Great pictures, DM! Thanks for sharing them. Now, did Bodie see the picture of Sprite and just copy the tongue thing? :D

Hey, y'know I never thought of that db!! Mind you, he sees it plenty in real life, so it could well be a "copy-cat" thing!! DM |

We were up at the caravan this week, with my daughter too, and I managed to get the dogs to sit still long enough to get this. (and yes, that is a tent in the background - don't ask!!)

Oh man! I just love the names for places and things in your neck of the woods!
The Croy tree with the angry sky is my fave. I have a thing about graceful, bold, poetic trees. If only they could talk! Your doggies are BEAUTIFUL! TY for sharing all the pics sweetie! |

That's another great pic DM! The expressions on their faces this time around made me sort of chuckle. Sort of as if they were doing their very best to give you a doggy version of "American Gothic". :D
Well ok, not exactly but I only live a few miles from where that one was painted and it just sort of came to mind. :) |
Beautiful pooches! And ha-ha IowaMan.... I had to relook at the picture after your post.

I can see that Iowa man one of them just need a pooper scooper is all. |
Lixy ~ Thanks, hon! Yeah, we do have some weird'n'wonderful names I s'pose; but these are nothing! Try Auchtermuchty or Findo Gask - both very real places I assure you (been to both). Our 'van is in a town called Blairgowrie & Rattray, it being an amalgamtion of the two towns back in the (I think) 1800's by an Act of Parliament. The town is "twinned" with a town in France, and Pleasanton, California!
IowaMan & maddy ~ you have no idea how long I waited for them to sit like that... the little 'un in particular is hyper-active, so to sit at all is an achievement for him! IM ~ thanks for the pic - I see what you mean! Booger ~ Ya din't mean the dogs, didja?!?! LOL DM |
This post is a bit of a cheat, really, in that there aren't any pictures in it! But I just wanted to tell you all of a couple of things I saw in the past few days...
.....first, we were up at the caravan all last week, and R & I stayed on til monday evening. Anyway, took the dogs up to a wood nearby at about 6:30 Monday morning, for their walk. We were going up through the first stands of trees and they had both disappeared on their own doggie way, as they do. I heard a kind of bounding "thump thump thump" fairly close, and thought it was Bodie running bak. Looked up...... and about 20 feet away from me was a full-grown Roe deer stag, bounding down the hill. Absolutely breathtaking, and, natch, NO CAMERA!!! Dohh!! Second one was, Tuesday afternoon up Croy Hill (where the "bush" and "tree" pics were taken) heard a "caw caw" sound up above. Looked up, and the breeding pair of buzzards I've been sort of keeping an eye on all summer were flying out, with "Buzzy", their one-and-only chick, obviously out for his first (or one of his first, anyway) flights, with mum and dad squawking to keep him right! Beautiful! Then today, up there again, and Buzzy was out on his own. Didn't expect him so early, so no camera again, but did have my little binoculars this time. Definitely Buzzy, as the Primaries weren't quite fully developed, and some of the wing-tip feathers weren't adult length, but he was doing very well despite that. Didn't quite have the knack of "catching the thermals" at first, but after about 15 minutes he finally got it - up, up and awaaaay he went, so high I lost him after about 500 feet (very hazy today). I wish I'd had my camera, even though I'm reduced to dial-up again..... I'm sure you would have loved him as much as I did. Ah well........ next time!! DM |
YOU MOTHER FUCKER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ah hun...strap that cam to your dick (most guys think of their dick more than anything else on the planet) if you have to! (((((dm))))) You know I love you...right? Wooooooo me now with pics...k? Really babe...you tell a telling tale and I can "almost" see it in my mind...but a pic smathered in here and there would make me yearn (all the more) to come on over for a visit! ^^^^ That'd scare ya...huh? |
Quote:
No Fear Here, sweetie!!! :D And of course I know you love me! :hot: I'd love for you to visit, even with the stookie on (in truth, I might be a wee bit feart of that!). Then, I'd definitely need a camera.... after I wooed you, of course ....... and another memory card. ....or two. ........or three......... ;) DM |

I was looking through some folders the other night, and found this. It's a picture of (I think) daddy buzzard I got back at the beginning of June.
Don't think I've posted this before - if so, some apologies - but he's beautiful, I reckon, so worth another look. Sorry Lixy.... best I can do for now!! DM |
DM, you have a real talent! Picture of the dogs was fantastic; the mental picture of the roe deer was vivid; and, that's an amazing picture of the buzzard in flight. Hats off to you!
|
WoW good on you!!! Did you go cold turkey?
It's all worth it when you can buy the things you want when stopping a bad habbit |
Thanks for the kind words DB... a lot of it is down to pure luck, I assure you! Means a lot though - you take a mean photie yourself, as I recall!
mikaylasmummy ~ no, I used nicotine patches (for 12 weeks! LOL) I had tried numerous times before, in all sorts of ways, but the patches, plus some other stuff that was going on at the time, did the trick. And saving the best part of £60 a week (that's about US$90 - sorry I'm not sure of the Aus$ equivalent) has meant I could also buy a new car last year!! :) H and I were up at a place called Braemar last weekend, where they hold an annual Highland Gathering. Got some pics of that I'll share with you, but I'll need to resize them first! DM |

Well, th^t didn't take as long as I expected, so here goes!
These first few are two sets of "contrast"-type shots. First two are taken from the decking at our caravan, and is part of the view we have sitting outside. The second pair are of a decrepit old shed we see when we go to the woods to walk the dogs. I've always liked this as a photo-op (!) and wanted to get it before it fell down! |

These three show a couple of the first events we saw after arriving. First two, the titles speak for themselves. This is one HARD team sport, folks!
Last one is where the competitors have to throw a 16 pound weight over a bar set as high as possible. Here, it was roughly eighteen and a half feet! |

These two are of stuff a wee bit more "stereotypical" of my country. The pipe and drum massed bands are made up from representatives of eleven pipe and/or drum bands from all over Scotland, one of which recently came third at the World Championships in Glasgow!
The fella throwing his Mace over the high banner is a Pipe Major, enjoying their very own competition. This one was to throw the mace over the banner and catch it, without dropping it OR breaking step. He was closest, but no-one managed it; due, IMHO, to the banner causing them to "lose sight" of it on it's way down! |

These four are of Hammer throwers. The 'Hammer' is merely an iron ball on the end of a wooden handle. The whole thing together weighs about 28 pounds.
It hurts. Of the last in this series, I just liked the way it looked as though the judge is about to get splattered!!! |

A major part of the proceedings is the arrival of a VERY special guest, in quite a special car.
Ladies and Gentlemen - Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth the Second, accompanied by HRH The Duke of Edinburgh. |

Getting near the end, now, you'll be pleased to hear!
These are of the last event we saw - tossing the caber. (Yes, it IS a real sport!) The object here is to throw (or 'toss') the caber end-over-end so it lands with the "base" ppointing away from you, and in a straight line. It is a solid log, 20 feet long and weighing approximately 121 pounds. Fancy a go? |
Last one - this time!

After the Games are over, many of the entrants come down to Blairgowrie (where our 'van is) for "Braemar Night". It's good fun, with lots of dancing, bands etc. Later in the evening, things culminate in a fireeworks display - here's one, and about the only half-decent shot I anaged to get.
That's all, folks. Hope you liked these ones as much as the rest. DM |
Hi dm!!!!!
Those pics are reallllllly cool, Thank You! I see in Going, going you even got a pic of one of WI's friends. :D |

Got a few more pics yesterday, and wanted to share a few with you all (actually, only 5 out of nearly 60 - the rest either had faces or are rubbish!!)
An-ee-way........ first one was an extremely lucky shot of mum and dad buzzard diving down for a snack! You may need to look hard for the second one - bottom right, in the middle of the tree clump. Second shot is of what passes for a Marina round our way - narrow-boats and other craft in a basin on the canal! |

Of these three, the first is to show y'all just how filthy our dogs get when they're out having fun!
The second two are just ones I happen to like - hope some of you do, too! DM |
More truly outstanding photographs. I love the silhouettes, DM, thank you for sharing these pictures of your homeland, they are beautiful and help me when I close my wyes to imagine the countryside there as though I was making a virtual visit.

Aw, shaddap!! :o Seriously, thanks db. I'm getting better (slowly!) and, like yesterday, a wee bit lucky! Unfortunately, today I didn't have my camera with me and, like always, saw a few things I'd have loved to photograph! Ah well. One I forgot from yesterday though, was this - it's a common-or-garden sparrow in flight. First time I've ever come anywhere near to a decent pic like this, so here it is. I dare say it'll be a wee bit fuzzy, as it's a tiny part of a much bigger picture, but cropped quite brutally! DM |
