Good one IM
|
And now, the Red Wings and the Penguins are each on the verge of playing for the Cup. Woah.
|
So much for the sweep. I didn't expect to get one anyway, Dallas is much better than they have played this series, but they have to win 3 in a row to take the Wings out.
I think Pittsburgh takes out Philly tonight and they await the Wings for the Cup finals. We shall see.....it's sure been a good playoffs so far! |
Nah, no sweep, but yeah, I'm thinking Detroit takes out Dallas in the next game. And yeah, you're probably right, Pittsburgh takes the series from Philadelphia tonight.
|
I think that the NHL, got the finals it "wanted" the youth of the Pens vs. the age and experience of the Red Wings, even though the Wings really aren't as old as many people seem to think.
I think ultimately that the Wings prevail, but it will be a series of close games, ending with the Wings hoisting Lord Stanley's cup after game 6. Sorry Sid, better luck next year. |
Go, Detroit! (at this point, far better than Pittsburgh taking the Cup).
|
Strictly speaking from a NHL "wish list" standpoint, I'm sure that Gary Bettman is hoping that Sid the Kid gets to lift the cup over his head after game 7, and the NHL media machine (2 hampsters on a wheel, and a mouse with an old ink quill) would quickly get to work sending various images of Sid with the cup, sent out via Pony express to all 14 people in the US who still care about hockey. CBC will handle things for the Canadians who will be estatic that Sid lead the Pens to victory.

Wings take game 2 by a 3-0 score. Pittsburgh has now gone 135 minutes and 57 seconds without scoring a goal.
Things got chippy at the end of the game with Pittsburgh getting physical and playing the body going after Wings goalie Chris Osgood as well as winger Johan Franzen. While I understand why, and I would probably, "coach them up" the same way, I don't see how the Penguins think that roughing up the goalie and a player coming back from concussion-like symptoms would be the guys wearing the bullseye. Take Zetteberg or Datsyuk out of their games by going after them, they have done more damage to the Pens than Franzen. If you target Ozzie or Franzen the wings will just beat you on the power play. Hockey Central guys were saying that was what the Pens need to do, to get try and gain some momentum, and while I understand that theory, it just appears that the Penguins are losing composure, and against a veteran team like the Wings, I don't see how that would work. Anyone got any thoughts? |
I've got to take a minute to give the Penguins some credit, this team has the look of a potential champion, given their core group of players.
While I don't understand some of the actions on the ice, I'm sure that some of it is just due to frustration of being dominated by the Wings thus-far. The Penguins have not played badly this series, but the Wings have just played better. With Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, Marc-Andre Fleury , Jordan Staal , Marian Hossa , Max Talbot and company the Pens have a very bright future. The comparisons between this team and the early 80's Oilers teams seem to be pretty accurate. My guess is that Crosby will hoist the Cup sooner rather than later, just not THIS year. Enjoy the ride Pens and NHL fans, its going to be a beauty. |
3 to 2 ![]() :line: |
And hopefully, tonight's the night that Detroit ends it all.
|
Congrats
WINGS :( (talk about pulling one out of your ass, that 3rd point set the standard. :banghead: ) |
Despite giving up a late power play, pulled-goalie goal, the Detroit Red Wings won the game 3-2, and get the Stanley Cup for thsi year.
What a wild ride. I know SugarSprinkles is happy. |
^^^ Yep Yep Yep! :d
|
Congrats to the Penguins as well as the Wings for an entertaining Stanley Cup Finals.
Detroit own's Stanley right now, and for the next 360+ days, but Sid the kid will get his hands on it really soon! |
