Closest I came to anything on the list was when we passed on a Chevette to go with the 1980 AMC Spirit...which was really just a re-skinned Gremlin, which itself was the Javelin chopped down to sub-compact size (AMC was caught flat-footed when the Pinto & Vega came out) ... the Spirirt was a true mongrel car, as I worked on it over the years I discovered it had a GM engine (2.5 litre Pontiac "Iron Duke", for those who care), Ford trannie, Chrysler radio...but it served me very well for 10 years & over 90K miles, thru one wreck, & spent much less of its time in the shop than our 86 Cavalier...

Speaking of the Vega, my daddy's last vehicle was a 74 Vega Kammback wagon...the car was still running (barely) when he quit running in 1992 (of course the car had only 30somethingK on the clock)...I was surprised to find that the Vega didn't make the list, maybe the Pinto got more headlines for its failure, but they both marked the beginning of the truly disposible car... it was common to see an oil slick on the road just a few hundred feet from another abandoned Vega after that aluminum block 4-banger cracked & died...

My auntie owned a Chevette for a couple years. Great economically, then it started falling apart. She got rid of it before it decomposed in her hands.

Someone close to me had a Chevette, but I don't know the year. That car broke down a lot. :p
