My balcony has become pigeon party central!
And MAN, do they like to be party poopers!
Anyone have any good tips for getting rid of them? I don't want an owl on my balcony and I don't want to watch them explode from Alka Seltzer. :) :bfly: |
Throw seed on the balcony next door :p
|
have you tried those blow up party lantern thingies, they have streamers on them, the movement scares them, supposedly. other than that i'm no help. good luck and i would invest in some good cleaner that stuff is hard to get rid of.
|
maybe lots of windchime would have the same effect.
|
LOL Lil! The guys next door are stoners aka possible friends. :D
Don't tell me that stuff is hard to clean! I woke up this morning to several white blobs on the patio. I'm shopping for patio furniture soon and I don't want to get white stuff just to blend in! I've heard ammonia works so I'll give it a go. It'll kill two birds with one stone, pardon the pun - it'll clean the poop and keep them away. |
Hmmm...I have an air rifle and some time on my hands....Squab anyone???

The windchimes or those cool crystal gazing things seem like the ticket to me. The gazing thing has beads, mirrors, and crystals hanging around, sorta like a windchime but cooler looking. Could be something fun to stare at during certain "sitting outside" times. ;) |
i saw a show on HGTV (gardening by the yard, i think it was) and the host said to hang CDs up on a wire. don't remember if it was for all birds or certain birds. worth a try, maybe...good luck.

Put your horse to work chasing the damn pests away! It's about time he started earning his keep.
|
Maybe instead of hanging the CDs, you could play them. Just put "The Osmonds" on continuous play. That should keep them away.
|
Would work for me :p

Think that for this to work it HAS to be William Hung's CD of "She Bang". That will scare ANYTHING and EVERYTHING off your balcony. |
Something is bringing the birds.
Do you have birds which toss seed attracting the little sh- sorry birds or perhaps some plant gone to seed that they like? Birdseed soaked in alum would not be toxic to them, but be bitter enough to send them elsewhere (I think). Failing that, rat traps baited with peeled pumpkin seeds are slightly more legal than a 12ga shotgun. |
Get out your pidgeon-english dictionary. They might want to communicate something to you.

Eros---I was going to suggest that but I thought that everyone would freak out!I used to shoot handguns competitively.I now, keep a 22 pistol,by the back door.Voila,NO more squirrels,at my wifes, bird feeders.May I also, suggest a Crossman BB/Pellet gun. The power can increase,up to 10 pumps(No CO2 Cartridge) They are silent, have a rifeled barrel & are very accurate.=no pissed-off neighbors.I can't use a trap, because of my wifes cat! Steph---We had ground squirrels/chipmunks digging around my newly paved driveway. My wife checked the web. They suggested 5 gal buckets,1/2-3/4 filled with water, then you float sunflower seeds on top of the water. You run a wooden ramp(board)up & slightly overhanging, the buckets side. They walk up,the ramp, try to eat the seed, fall in & drown. It sounds stupid but it works. Suggestion:Wear earplugs,so the screaming won't bother you!:D P.S.Try the web or a search! Irish |
