I read today in the paper that in the late 90's thousands of babies were being born infected here in the US. In 2003 that number has dropped to 5, yes 5. Progress of this magnitude amazes me.

Just nice to see that sort of effort paying off. Now maybe we can apply that same effort to Africa (http://www.oprah.com/tows/pastshows/tows_2002/tows_past_20020920_c.jhtml). The statistics there are uncomprehendable.

This IS wonderful news for us Lil! Amazing even!

What I don't know or understand is...is the US one of the countries that Africa is trying to pay back it's debt to? Why don't we just dissolve that responsibility? Or at the very least, why are they being charged so much interest on their debts? Can't we dissolve the interest charges? Holy Shit...these people need help! Not more responsibility and more to worry about! With as rich as this and many other countries are, why are [we] continuing to bilk these people of monies that could be used to aid in the AIDS crisis? And...why aren't those who know the technology, offering their time and expertise to help Africans make safe water?

I've got some reading to do I guess. I wasn't aware of just how bad things have gotten. I knew Bono was an AIDS embassador...but I just never delved far enough into the goings on. Ignorance isn't an excuse...it's just damn ignorant!

TY for the enlightenment Lilith!

Don't inhale yet CGT! It only means we are more affective at treating mother's who are infected and keeping their babies from getting it. Sexual transmission of AIDS is still going to plague us.

Wonderful news (for the US) Lilith, thanks for sharing it. Agreed, we must think cross the water and see help them with some of what we have learned.

AIDS is outkilling Africans over war, starvation and the boring old diseases such as

Plague and Cholera.

The only disease that seems to be holding it's own is Malaria.

When you read of countries where it is estimated that a third of the populace has Aids,

the conspiracy theories that AIDS was developed to de-populate the third world to leave

room for our great-grandchildren sounds a touch more credible.

I'm reading the wrong stuff lately.

Lil, can you please send me your manuscript of the 1002 nights of Pixies please.
